iMasterArabic  A1.2 Levantine & MSA

Follow-up to course iMasterArabic A1.1
Speak Levantine Arabic, understand and read MSA.

Description

This course is the second part of the Level A1, it consists of 18 lessons of 1.5 hours each, spread out over two semesters Several breaks are scheduled throughout the course in order to allow the student to catch up and review regularly.

The focus of this course is Levantine Arabic, however, the student is encouraged to understand both Levantine and Modern Standard Arabic. Active participation is required of the student in order to practice speaking, and to play in-class interactive games.

The following is practised in class:

1. the demonstratives: pointing to things and objects, demonstrating, showing and asking about this, that, these and those.

2. nominal sentences: speaking without using verbs! Yes, that's very common in Arabic :-)

3. 'to have' and 'to want' (very much up-to-date!)

4. 'to go' and 'to come' (now allowed after the lockdown!)

5. 'to like' and 'to love' (human nature!)

6. speaking about hobbies and free time (great way to make conversation)

7. reserving and ordering in an Arabic restaurant (love eating out!)

8. time-related subjects: saying the time, making appointments, checking schedules, and saying when something took place.

Objectives

At the end of this course, you will achieve the equivalent of Level A1 of the “Common European Framework of Reference for Languages”.

This means that you are able to:

1. Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.

2. Easily express yourself with the verbs ‘to have’, ‘to want’ and 'to like/love' in different daily situations.

3. Interact in a simple way, provided the other person talks slowly and clearly, and is prepared to help.
